The Glorification of being busy

In this busy society, we often forget to take care of ourselves. Taking care of everything else always seem to come first. This needs to change.

The glorification of being busy

In modern society we glorify the idea of being busy. The busier we are, the better we think we’re doing. But that’s just a toxic trait that we’ve created over generations. It’s not healthy at all.

At an airplane, you are instructed to put your own mask on before you help others with theirs. The same applies to the rest of your life. Learn to spend time with yourself (and b yourself). Learn to look out for yourself and take care of yourself. And most importantly, learn to love yourself. Otherwise, how will others know how to love and take care of you? How will they trust you to love and take care of them?

Self-love is essential

It all starts by caring for and loving yourself.

Being busy isn’t the goal here. Being happy is. And we cannot be truly happy, or happy at all, if we neglect ourselves and our own needs.

All living beings need time to be social, but we also need time spent alone. Time to just breathe.

We need time to sit down and eat our meals without distractions, and time to relax and prepare our meals.

We need time to relax after we’ve done our tasks for the day, and time to exercise to keep our bodies healthy.

Many of us are disconnected and distracted, which is not a good combination. We are living in the digital world and time is passing far more quickly than we are able to register. Time passes us by and we are just floating along, focusing on the wrong things and trying to follow society’s rules.

But why? What is it all for? Who is it all for?

It certainly isn’t for me. And I suspect it isn’t for you either.

Get your priorities straight

Figure out what is actually important to you, and how to get back to pursuing that. Konmari your life, if you will. Find out what sparks joy, and what you are doing simply to please other people or to chase your fantasy self.

Write down what you need to be able to get back to your purpose, and what your current obstacles are.

Make a list of pros and cons of your current way of life. What is working? What isn’t working?

These things will give you the information you need to make a plan for a new way of life. A slower one. One filled with self-love, self-care and a surrounding stillness, so that you can enjoy the small, yet precious moments in life. A life of peace.

How have you really been feeling lately?
