There are quite a few ways to make your own fertiliser, but I will introduce you to three simple methods that I like to use.

Liquid fertiliser

  1. Start a bokashi compost, strain the bokashi tea and keep it in a container or bottle.

  2. Go foraging for some nettles. It won’t be difficult since they grow just about everywhere during spring and summer. Place a good amount of nettles in a bucket and cover it with water. Let it sit for a few days. Strain the liquid into a container.

  3. Gather seaweed in a bucket and cover it with water. Let it sit for a few days. Strain the liquid into a container.

Dry fertiliser

  1. Boil some banana peels or citrus peels. Dehydrate them until they are fully dry. Then you crumble them over the soil of your plants.

  2. Sprinkle used coffee grounds in the soil around your blueberry plants and other berry plants that enjoy a soil with a bit more acidity.

  3. Crumble used up mushroom blocks and mix them in with the soil of your plants.

Bananas can be quite expensive, but brown or spotted bananas are easy to get with a discount in the supermarkets. Citrus are quite cheap during winter, and depending on where you live in the world, you might already be growing your own.

Good luck!
