  1. Grocery shops with friends and family to keep costs low. If you all go in one car, go once a month, and buy food in bulk and share it, all of you will be able to get more food for less money.

  2. Ferment food yourself. Fermented food is good for us, and many of us use fermented foods on daily. But it can be quite expensive, whereas the cost of doing it yourself is next to nothing. Learn how to make what you need well, and make it in bulk every, every other or every third year.

  3. Start baking your own bread.

  4. Start a sourdough. You won’t need to buy yeast if you have a sourdough, and sourdough bread is very good for your gut.

  5. Use a programmable thermostat to make sure you only use as much heating or cooling as you can afford.

  6. Choose flea markets, thrift stores, second-hand shops and consignment shops rather than buying new ones.

  7. When you think you want something, bookmark it and leave it for thirty days. If you still want it after that time, get it for the best price or get it second-hand. But most of the time, we forget about it long before the 30 days have passed.

  8. Negotiate your bills. Negotiate better rates for your internet, your phone bill and the like. See if you qualify for a discount or some sort, or ask if the company can grant you one for being a loyal customer. If not, consider changing.

  9. Use cash instead of credit cards or payment plans.

  10. Go to a library instead of buying books.

  11. Borrow books from friends and family.

  12. Buy books second-hand.

  13. Learn how to DIY home repairs and maintenance if possible.
