Fashion Freedom: You Should Wear What You Want To Wear

No one else gets to dictate what you wear or how you wear it.

No one else gets to dictate what you wear or how you wear it. Fashion has no gender. It is for all bodies and all people.

Hello gorgeous!

I want you to listen to me for a bit. It won’t take long, I promise.

I don’t know what age you are, or what gender you identify with, but I want to tell you something.

If someone tells you not to wear something because it’s from the men’s/women’s section, ignore them. The gendered sections are only there to further the divide, reinforce the toxic gender roles and keep oppressing us all.

If someone tells you to dress your age, they do not deserve to have access to you anymore. What is even in an age? What does that really tell us about a person?

Your age only tells you how long you’ve stayed in your body during this human experience of yours. That’s all. Your age is not a guide to how you should live, what you should look like or who you should spend your life with. It’s just a number.

Your life is about your soul and what you want to do with the time you have been given to spend in this form, this body.

On that note, your body is fantastic. Everything it does, it does out of love for you. It enables you to go places, see things, meet people, feel their touch, taste amazing foods, feel the rain on your skin and so much more. It is your vessel during your time here on earth, and that is all it needs to be. It does not need to look a certain way or fit a certain stereotype. Few bodies do. Love your body, for your body loves you.

And your clothes? The clothes you wear are supposed to bring you pure, unfiltered joy. Fashion is there to help us express what is in our souls, the energy we carry inside our inner beings. Fashion is supposed to be fun, and interesting and make us feel good about ourselves. Feel good about being alive. It’s supposed to give us courage, make us brave even when we’re scared and make us feel beautiful.

If your clothes do not make you feel happy to be alive, wear something else.

If you have a body and you’ve found clothes that you want to wear, then those clothes were made for you. End of. Gender, body type, age – none of that matters. We should all have equal access to fashion. Fashion is wearable art and art does not need to be beautiful nor does it need to appeal to all. Your worth does not lie in how attractive other people find you. You’re so much more than any of that shallow stuff.

Now I want you to hear this.

All bodies are beautiful.

All genders are beautiful.

This is true for we are all perfectly imperfect, all of us. That makes us beautiful. For we are children of nature. Not one of us is perfect, and we are all unique pieces of art, shaped by our experiences and the people we’ve met.

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

Eleanor Roosevelt said that. And she was right.

None of us are inferior. As much as we like to pretend otherwise, we are all equal in our worth.

And the labels, the roles, the gendered departments? F them! Next time you want something new to wear, you pick what you want and you wear it with pride.

(Psst… Do shop at a small business or a 2nd hand store if you can, because you know… the climate threat isn’t so much a threat as it is an impending doom. And also, the small businesses really need it in this economy.)

Remember, you are amazing just the way you are!

Have a fantastic day, gorgeous!
